BSP Consulting is part of the team delivering a new boxing gym in Hinckley which will be named in honour of one of its members who died suddenly, aged 17.
Christian Hobbs was a keen amateur boxer who trained at the Heart of England Community Boxing Club in the Leicestershire town. He died unexpectedly on Boxing Day 2017 of heart failure.
Planning permission has been granted by Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council for a new state-of-the-art boxing gym to be built in Leicester Road – next to Hinckley Cricket Club.
Designed by Corporate Architecture, the Christian Hobbs Gym will feature three boxing rings, a viewing gallery, classroom, a canteen and changing facilities, plus a physiotherapy room. The plans also include parking and outdoor areas to be used for summer training. It is envisaged that other community groups will also use the building.
BSP Consulting has provided the civil engineering design for the scheme, along with pre-planning drainage services and tender stage design.

“From what we have heard, he loved boxing and it is inspirational that his parents Caspar and Louise, with support from so many others, have worked hard to raise funds to build a new facility for the sport of amateur boxing in Hinckley.
“This will be both a permanent home for Christian’s club and has the potential also to become a world class amateur boxing centre.”
The fundraising effort is being spearheaded by the Christian Hobbs Charity which is devoted to supporting amateur sport, with a passionate focus on boxing.
The charity aims include provision of buildings, land, grants and equipment to give amateur boxing clubs accommodation and equipment to support their members’ participation in the sport.
Construction will start as soon as the fundraising target is met.
